Mentor

Growing up isn’t easy! A trusted adult can make a massive difference to a child.

A mentor is a volunteer who supports and acts as a role model for a child or young person aged from 5 to 18.

Some children need a mentor because they have low self esteem. Others are struggling because of problems at home, or some difficulties at school.

If you help a child by being a mentor, you will support them to:

  • Overcome challenges
  • Benefit from a trusting relationship with an adult
  • Make new friends with other children and young people
  • Identify their strengths and potential
  • Help them plan and achieve their own goals
  • Be happier, healthier and have a better future!

You will act as a mentor every 1 to 2 weeks, working in one of a number of different settings:

  • A group with other mentors and young people
  • A school or community centre
  • In the community

We take the safety and wellbeing of children and young people extremely seriously. All mentors must provide referees and pass an Enhanced DBS check.
